Beyond the Usual Suspects: A Finger Lakes Sauvignon Blanc & Syrah Tasting 9/19
Saturday September 19 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm
They’re not the Finger Lakes varieties you hear about every day, but maybe they should be. Join New York Kitchen Beverage Educator Glenn Everdyke for an afternoon exploring two compelling white and red wines that quietly thrive in our cool-climate region: Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah.
Sauvignon Blanc, affectionately known as SauvieB, brings a lively range of citrus and savory notes to the glass, and local producers are making a strong case for why it belongs on every Finger Lakes wine list. Meanwhile, Finger Lakes Syrah is a revelation for anyone who knows it only as bold, sun-drenched Shiraz from warmer climates. Grown here, it’s a more elegant, food-friendly expression, lighter in body, higher in acidity, lower in alcohol, and full of character all its own.
Neither variety is widely planted in the region, which makes this tasting a rare opportunity to compare local producers side by side and discover what makes these wines so worth seeking out. Paired with a delightful nosh plate from Chef Pam Cecere, this is a delicious afternoon for the curious wine lover ready to venture off the beaten path.
