The Tasting That Changed Everything – Revisted: The Anniversary of the Judgement of Paris 5/22
Friday May 22 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
On May 24, 1976, the wine world was turned upside down. In a historic blind tasting that would come to be known as the Judgment of Paris, California’s finest Chardonnays and Cabernet Sauvignons shocked the establishment, besting the celebrated white Burgundies and red Bordeaux of France. The reverberations are still felt today.
Now, almost fifty years later to the day, we’re staging our own reckoning, right here in the Wine Spectator Theater.
Your guide through this delicious showdown is Anthony Velasquez: wine educator at Forge Cellars, published writer and essayist, and instructor at the New York Beverage Institute. Anthony will set the stage with a deep dive into the legend of the Judgment and an expert primer on these storied regions… then the real fun begins!
Guests will go head-to-head across three blind tasting rounds: California Chardonnay versus white Burgundy, Pinot Noir versus red Burgundy, and the grand finale: Napa Cabernet Sauvignon versus Bordeaux. You’ll taste, take notes, debate, and cast your vote. California or France. Who will reigns supreme?
Whether you’re just beginning to explore wine or you’ve been deep in the cellar for decades, this is one class you won’t want to miss. Interactive, spirited, and genuinely delicious it’s a tasting with something truly at stake!
Accompanied by the delightful nosh plate from Chef Pam Cecere, you’ll have quite the evening of being the judge yourselves.
